It's been sporadically reported over the past few months that BMW is considering offering a new microcar to battle it out with the smarts and Toyota iQs of the world. An Isetta revival seems plausible, but in markets outside of Europe and the U.S., the determining factor for consumers is price.
BMW might be looking to India to launch its newest breed of mini mobility, something that would be similar in size to the recently released Tata Nano, but come equipped with more of the luxuries normally associated with the German marque.
The PTI News agency originally reported on BMW's initial exploration into this new vehicle, and our friends over at World Car Fans contacted BMW for more information. According to BMW's spokesperson, there are no plans to compete with the Nano, but the automaker is exploring "the future [of] mobility," a wonderfully canned answer from a PR department if we ever heard one.

Tonight in Geneva we saw the whole thing. Carlos Ghosn himself introduced the new FX at a club-like venue just down the road from the Palexpo. Accompanied by some choreographed theatrics, the new FX dropped from the ceiling and landed front and center ahead of its EX37 and G37 siblings, which will join it in the new Infiniti dealerships starting up in Europe this year.The redesigned 2009 FX will come in three different flavors, topping out with the FX50 we saw here. As the name tells us, it features a new 5.0L V8, said to be good for 390HP and more than 500nM of torque. Fairly stout numbers compared to the outgoing 4.5. The 2009 FX should start appearing at North American Infiniti dealers by June. You can read about the rest of the changes to this fairly highly anticipated CUV in the press release after the jump, but we think the photos in the gallery will tell more of the story. Personally we'd be remiss if we didn't note that although most of the changes sound great, the second-gen FX doesn't improve on the previous generation in the styling department.

2009 Infiniti FX Makes World Debut at Geneva Motor Show Second Generation of Infiniti's Performance Luxury Crossover SUV Goes On Sale in North America in June –
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 4, 2008) – Infiniti today revealed the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX performance luxury crossover SUV in conjunction with the Geneva Motor Show. The second-generation FX, with its fusion of sports car and SUV design, will be offered in three models, including a new 5.0-liter V8-equipped Infiniti FX50. The 2009 FX is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealers in the United States and Canada in June 2008.
The new FX's world debut in Geneva was hosted by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn, who also announced details of Infiniti's plans to enter the Western European market in the last quarter of 2008.
About the 2009 Infiniti FX The all-new second-generation Infiniti FX is designed to offer exceptional levels of power, refinement, safety and driving exhilaration. Created as a fusion of sports car and SUV, with breathtaking styling, sports car-like proportions and an advanced sports sedan platform, the new FX is a showcase of Infiniti's design and technology leadership.
Along with its dramatic, aerodynamic body structure and sporty FM (Front Midship) platform, the new FX features a extensive list of available equipment and technology designed to create an exciting and rewarding driving experience – including a new 380+ horsepower 5.0-liter 32-valve DOHC V8 or advanced V6 engine (V6 details to be released later), 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and available solid magnesium paddle shifters, available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension and large 4-wheel disc brakes. As every automaker knows, new models aren't without their growing pains. Aside from all the other issues to contend with while launching a new vehicle, there's always the possibility that something is going to go amiss after deliveries begin. Such is the case with Nissan, who just informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that 11,511 2009 Nissan Muranos and 4,854 2009 Infiniti EX35s have to be recalled to fix a problem with the passenger airbag. While we may fondly look back to the days when such issues could be resolved with some chicken wire and electrical tape, the airbag problem should be an easy fix since it's due to incorrectly programmed software. We're assuming it won't be more than some kind of reflash of the computer, but for those of you rolling in one Nissanfiniti's new 'utes, you might want to give your dealer a call so the person to your right has a better chance of leaving unscathed if the unthinkable happens.
Racing is inherent to Formula One, but this kind of race is something different altogether. While Ferrari prepares its theme park in Abu Dhabi, in neighboring emirate Dubai they're gearing up for the grand opening of the first F1-X theme park. As we previously reported, Dubai-based development company Union Properties secured the rights from Bernie Ecclestone to construct a series of F1 theme parks around the world, and the first, in its home base, is preparing to open its doors around the same time as Ferrari World.
Recently revealed to be called F1-X, the Dubai park will be one of five parts of the MotorCity development – which will also include the Dubai Autodrome, a business park and two luxury condo complexes – forming one pavilion of Dubailand, a sort of Disneyland for the Persian Gulf. Today spectators at the Autodrome got an eXciting and eXhilarating taste of things to come as F1-X officially announced its presence and flexed its muscles through the eXhibition of a visually and technically flabbergasting stunt, designed and delivered by Mr Ric Birch, best known as the Master of Olympic Ceremonies, whereby go-karts drove over the heads of 150 men, symbolizing the fact that most of today's Formula One pilots founded their racing careers in the sport of karting.
The name F1-X was chosen to represent the many unique facets of the Formula One brand – Xtreme sport, Xcellence, Xcitement, Xclusivity, and of course elements of the park itself – Xhibits, Xploration and guests Xpectations Xceeded. F1-X, situated next to the Dubai Autodrome is one of the five project-components of MotorCity developed by Union Properties (UP), and will be the first theme park of its kind in the world, as well as the first attraction to open in Dubailand in 2009, making it the first F1-X theme park to open around the world, with plans to roll-out globally already underway.
